Headhunting is the practice of seeking, removing and preserving human heads. It has been practiced worldwide and may date as far back as the Mesolithic era. This episode focuses mainly on the historic reports of headhunting in Indonesia and the Philippines, and the preservation of this ritual into the modern era.

This week on Necromancy Radio I decided to mix things up a bit and discuss gothic lifestyle that pertains to diet and the subject of living vegan, with Nigerian/American Adaora Osimiri-Lewis aka Goth in the Raw. The 5’11 amazonian goddess is not only the creator of website Goth in the Raw, but is a wife, mother of 2, has multiple degrees in fashion, business and most recently, heath coaching. Adaora has walked the catwalks in NYC as a model, is an animal rights advocate, supporter of the Sophie Lancaster Foundation in conjunction with Illamasqua, magazine editor, previously an industrial singer for Razorblade Twins and most notably, a private raw food chef. Her recipes on the website Goth in the Raw are inspired by her passion for the macabre and darkness as an aesthetic – her Instagram is a work of art.

It seems a little of an oxymoron when people identify with the subculture in a vampiric way to the extent where Goths are not actually blood sucking vampires or even meat eaters, but can be raw foodies. The revolution of Veganism has been trending in recent years, however it definitely is not a fad by any means. If you’re serious about your health, the planet and animal cruelty, this is the podcast for you.

We also discuss her greatest influencers such as her grandfather, the Dalai Lama, racial discrimination as a black goth, religion and all kinds of stuff. We hope you enjoy this unique conversation and hope you find it inspiring as it is poignant, during a time in history where compassion and understanding is what is needed most to define ourselves as a community as well as secure our planet for the future.

Welcome to episode 43 of Cemetery Confessions! This month we are talking about subverting gender norms and the role performative aesthetic plays in goth identity, we are reviewing the new album from Selofan, and we are talking about the trans experience within the context of goth culture.

Our guests this month are patreon member Abigail and Aurora, who is an author and musician.

News: 16:24

Flamboyant Darkness: Female Fronted Goth Bands Subvert Gender Norms

Album Review: 1:13:18

Selofan - Cine Romance

Philosophy Corner: 1:34:14

While the existence of trans people has only recently come into mainstream consciousness in the form of a fight for equal rights, biologists have known for a long time that gender, sexuality, anatomy, and identity are a spectrum both in nature and in homosapiens. Goths too, have a history of subverting heteronormative patriarchal gender norms and expectations, and providing a safe space for those who don’t conform to an essentialist dichotomy. However the debate about whether or not goth culture is, in its current state, truly accepting and progressive, cis-centric and discriminatory,  or whether it even has any power at all to reshape culture into an egalitarian community apart from mainstream patriarchy, still rages today.

Welcome to episode 42 of Cemetery Confessions! This month we are going to be chatting about whether or not the so called “subcategories” of goth are valid or useful, we are also talking about the future of horror as part of our crossover with the horroraddicts.net podcast, and finally we will be discussing the future of goth and what xenogoth has to offer.

If you enjoy the show, please consider supporting us on Patreon.
You can subscribe to the show via our podcast app or iTunes.
You can E-mail us at CemeteryConfessions@gmail.com

This month's guest is Sir William Welles of New Goth City, and now xenogoth!

New Goth City 2:00
We learn a bit about our guest, and his project New Goth City which aims to be a travel guide for goths in or coming to the US.

News: 12:50
Where do we draw the line when trying to label, taxonimize, and identify parts of the culture? Are trad goth or romantigoth simply a fashion choice, or could there be enough substance for those labels to warrant full blown subculture/identity status? How far is too far?
Subcategories of goth: Are They Useful?

Due to time restrictions our discussion focused on the first half of the article, to hear our thoughts on the remaining portion of article, sign up at our patreon page!

Horror Addicts Crossover: 1:11:15
We read and discuss an article about VR, in conjunction with the Next Great Horror Writer Contest over at HorrorAddicts.net

The Future of Goth: 1:31:27
This month it's all about Goth: The Final Frontier. Where have we been and where are we going? We're going to evaluate the dialectical relationship goth has with history, the state of the scene and barriers to entry, generational divides, stagnation, and most saliently, XENOGOTH and what the hell that even is.

This week on Necromancy Radio, I spoke with front man Jacques Saph from the Helsinki death rock band, Virgin in Veil. Jacques is the true Renaissance man – I say this because not only is he the co-writer and vocalist for the band, but also a multi-instrumentalist, philanthropist and his societal views on vegansim and anti-fascism are revealed in this interview. You may know him as the founder of Sleeping Children from Paris and other projects Secular Plague and Masquerade.

Jacques was born and raised in the city of Paris and for 25 years this was his home. Self taught on the guitar, he was originally inspired by the Sex Pistols and The Cure, knowing he would one day, with hard work, play and travel the world writing songs and performing on stage.

After meeting his wife Suzi Sabotage and without ever having visited Finland before, he moved to Helsinki in the Summer of 2014, fell in love and the rest is history. Formed in 2015, Virgin in Veil was as a result of meeting their drummer William as he was living in Helsinki, as he was half french, half Finnish and literally speaking the same language, Jacques quickly started writing music with him as the first member. Suzi Sabotage who later joined the band, is the backing vocalist and synth player. Virgin in Veil are a notable act on the death rock circuit, having toured heavily with almost 40 shows under their belt in Europe, Russia, LA and Mexico, they play amongst 210 bands over 4 days at this years Wave Gotik Treffen next weekend on Friday June 2.

Current line-up:

Jacques Saph: Vocals/Bass
Suzi Sabotage: Synth/Backing Vocals
Rudy Soininen: Guitar
William Freyermuth: Drums

The unofficial return of Gothropology as the pilot episode of Bitchcraft features a unique perspective on parenting from a real-life Morticia Addams: Jennifer Minter. From raising children in a loving environment and cultivating trust instead of pressure, maintaining her own identity through raising tiny ones, finding love on an AOL chat room, still kinda being in the broom closet (definitely being in the PTA), and the magick that's weaved the tapestry of her life. Pictured with her is Troll Meister and the smallest witchlet.

This weekend I interviewed Eyajo December Joseph from LA Deathrock outfit Black Heroin Gallery. Eyajo’s career spans over 25 years in the early years with a band known as The Baby Dolls, then after meeting Daniel Ian became co-songwriter and keyboardist for the Astrovamps from 1991-2007. First and foremost a poet, self-taught guitarist, illustrator, magazine creator and editor and now vocalist for Black Heroin Gallery, he’s a very busy man. However, he still took the time to chat with me over 2 hours of conversation about his life growing up in Lafayette, Indiana, getting a one way ticket to Los Angeles, forming a band, learning to play just like John Taylor and being a self-confessed Duran Duran fan. Eyajo’s southern charm is definitely addictive. He was so easy to talk to, we laughed a lot and even though my interviews generally span over one hour, this week we have 2 hours split over 2 episodes – Part One & Part 2.

Black Heroin Gallery now is a 3 piece being Eyajo (Vocals), Tony F Corpse (Drums) and Curtis aka Kris Fantom (Guitar). They’ve been rehearsing to release a second album and to start preparing for some live shows. I believe next year possibly getting a slot at WGT as well. The music is definitely reminiscent of Sex Gang Children, Ausgang and dare I say Cinema Strange. The eerie nature of this storytelling in Eyajo’s lyrics is also combined with a garage guitar sound that also eludes to even metal in parts. Released on German record label ‘Alice in…’ the band’s success was assisted by Frank D’Angelo as Ejayo’s first band, The Astrovamps, were first were signed and that relationship continued with his new band Black Heroin Gallery. Alice in… are also responsible for releasing other artists like William Faith, Monica Richards, Corpus Delicti, Bloody Dead & Sexy and Suspiria to name a few.

Eyajo is also the editor in chief for the magazine Pestilent Windfolk. This is a new publication that has been in circulation since Issue 1, Winter (USA) 2016. This is what drew me to the band initially as good friend Victoria Fashen had a copy and I just had to own it. It’s an epic 88 page black and white glossy magazine containing artwork, 14 interviews with underground post-punk, deathrock and artists from around the world. It’s a dying art, the production of magazines and as we discuss it the interview, Eyajo is not about to start compromising the content by releasing it more than once a year. For now. Issue 2 is already in production – watch this space!
