This week on Necromancy Radio, I interviewed Russian/Finnish vocalist and synth player Suzi Sabotage from the band Masquerade. Suzi is a divine combination of Siouxsie meets Nina Hagen in 2017. If you love punk female vocalists, Suzi is not only a fashionista but a woman with something to say. Her lyrics are humanitarian and often dark observations that are inspired by her curiosity, walking on the wild side and serious issues such as animal and fur farming. Starting writing her own lyrics at the age of 11 – Suzi’s tenacity is evident in everything she does – front woman and very early developed direction knowing what she wanted to be – and has become.
“I love the sweaty glamour of performing”.
We did discuss her love for art, fashion and the era of the 1920’s which also inspired her last album cover for Ritual – being a famous Man Ray photograph which I have included as part of this blog to reiterate this comparison. Suzi has lived her whole life in the city of Helsinki, however she loves to travel and being on the road touring.
She hopes to secure more gigs for before the new album which is being worked in possibly next year in January – this is not officially the release date, but as the interview unfolds you will be able to find out more about the album and motivation for her next release. We are so grateful for her time to chat with us as this podcast is her very first online audio interview.
Please check out the links below to follow the band, Suzi Sabotage solo projects and upcoming gigs with Masquerade. Suzi is working on a new album due for release early 2018.
