What is it about dolls that creeps us out? Is it their staring eyes? Their vague smiles? Or is it the fact that they have a history of being used as vessels for supernatural beings? In this episode we discuss the history of dolls, some famously haunted ones, and why they creep us out.

The Bimini Road has been surrounded by controversy since it was discovered in the 1960s, with some researchers stating it formed naturally, and others believing it to be a remnant of the Lost city of Atlantis. This episode we discuss this rock formation and why it is still controversial today.

This month we discuss the inside come out, how do sartorial idioms represent the music and metaphysical substrate of goth, both as personal expression and discursive space. We also touch on how depression and being a baby bat influence how we interpret and display the markers of goth. We review the new album from Sackcloth and Ashes, add our sinister suggestions, and more!

The international media has made Iceland well-known for some of its people's belief in elves, also known as the Huldufolk, which means Hidden People. In this episode we explore the folklore surrounding the Huldufolk, what they represent, and why they are still part of Iceland's cultural heritage.

Different cultures dispose of their dead in different ways. One of these is excarnation, where the flesh is removed from the bones by exposing the body to the elements or with tools. One of the most famous examples of excarnation is Tibetan Sky Burial, or Jhator. In this episode, we discuss this and many other forms of excarnation.

There is a place where the bodies of the dead lie exposed for decades, frozen in their moment of death. Hundreds of people pass them every year, and even use them as landmarks. That place is the Rainbow Valley, which lies in the Death Zone on the slopes of Mount Everest.

Yes, that Liisa, the favorite Liisa here on Cemetery Confessions. We got a chance to sit down and hash out our differences over her 40 years of goth video series as well as talk about aging in goth culture, mainstream fashion appropriation, and whether or not emo or nu goth are actually part of the culture.

You can find everything Liisa is up to on her website, follow her on facebook, or YouTube.

Apr 15, 2018

Imagine someone close to you, someone you trusted, convinced you that they were being followed. Imagine you became so wrapped up in their paranoia that you followed them into dangerous situations without question, until finally someone got hurt, and it was revealed to you that it was all a delusion caused by mental illness.

This sounds like a nightmare, one that is lived by people affected by Folie a deux.

This week Necromancy Radio exclusively interviews one of the most iconic female gothic rock icons of today, Monica Richards. Monica is most known as the female vocalist for Faith and The Muse and prior to that Madhouse and Strange Boutique, as well as her solo career. In recent years, she has been working on new music and recording as one of the front women for UK based collective, The Eden House. The Eden House is a collaborative musical project, initiated by Stephen Carey (formerly of This Burning Effigy and Adoration) and involving a collection of guest musicians and vocalists; later joined by Tony Pettitt (formerly of Fields of the Nephilim and Rubicon).

It’s more important now than ever to support music, the artists that make it and to keep a generation of people loved and appreciated so we can continue their legacies. During the interview Monica also talks about the need to create and the diminishing value of music and art today. The love of creating things by hand, the appreciation of lyrics and being able to cut through the noise is of concern to most artists – Monica makes no secret of now learning to live in a world that is very different to the one she grew up in. I think this interview with Monica made so much sense and I hope we can all continue to love and remember not only what the scene was, but continue to create new passions and new music for generations to come as part of the gothic subculture.

For photos, information on upcoming shows, and further show notes for this episode, please check out their website.
