We’ve finally started our discussion on the Valor Kand era of Christian Death. After Rozz William’s departure, Kand took over leading the group and fronts it till this day. Kand is known for his strong opinions and even stirred up a decent amount of controversy during his time as frontman, but do these releases stand up now? It seems that less people are as familiar with the Christian Death releases provided by Kand so hopefully we can shed some light on these possibly forgotten classics. We take a look at Atrocities, The Scriptures, Sex and Drugs and Jesus Christ, and All the Love All the Hate Parts 1 and 2.

This week we take a look at a more obscure band, And Also the Trees. Although they do have a following, they are certainly not a band that’s frequently discussed. Consequently, we felt it would be interesting to discuss their career, especially considering their ties to The Cure (something we discuss on the episode). In this episode, we review their first four albums, And Also the Trees, Virus Meadow, The Millpond Years, Farewell to the Shade. We hope you enjoy this episode and, as always, stay spooky.

Gothropology is the show that discusses ancient traditions, modern heretics, mortality, sexuality and regeneration- the guide to come and take you by the hand into unknown pleasures.

Sit down for some tea with Brit-El and Griffin as for a chat about midsummer solstice! Will you serve the crown or will the crown serve you, do you control your nature or does your nature control you? Griffin takes us on a journey through history and contemporary struggles of our relationship with the primal force of our nature. The implications of this in our modern world, and how it relates to the recent massacre in Orlando are also discussed. There is also a brief discussion on the occult and hauntings. Come and get lost with the fairies on this episode of Gothropology!

This week’s episode takes a look at 3 classic Dracula Adaptations, beginning with Dracula (1931), The Horror of Dracula, and Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Each film has its own individual style from the suave delivery of Bela Lugosi to the Menacing and campy performance by Christopher Lee or the passionate depiction by Gary Oldman. This month, as you know, we are talking about ageing in spectacular youth culture. Over time there have been a growing number of academics researching and studying the aging demographic of subcultures, and as someone who intends to grow old as a goth, and respects my elders, I thought it was high time we sat down with some seasoned goths to explore their involvement and identity in the goth culture.

I know, I know, I know….this is supposed to be GothCast right? Not Industrial-Cast??? You are correct, but many goths have an appreciation for Ministry and their brand of dark music. Not to mention their songs that are regularly played in most goth clubs to this day. So sit back and listen to Dr.Sanders and Robbie Gore discuss a band that had a huge shift in sound early on in their career. This episode covers the albums With Sympathy, Everyday Is Halloween (Single), Twitch, The Land Of Rape And Honey, and The Mind Is A Terrible Thing to Taste.

Dear fans, followers, listeners – The Dark Light will be taking a hiatus of indeterminate time.

Why, might one ask, would a creature of the night need such a break?  Do not immortals have all of the time in the world?  Perhaps.  However, it has come down to this: It is my hope that you enjoy this show and as an artist, I wish to perfect it.  There has been a disconnect and, at times, a lapse in quality.  It stirs unwanted emotions within my troubled soul.  Resources will be gathered, logistics re-evaluated and within time, a more formidable and powerful product will result.  As always, I cherish your patience, your feedback and your patronage.

Stay tuned.   I will maintain my online presence and post occasional short episodes as the muse hits.  I will continue The Dark Light’s social media postings; music updates and information, links and news of an interesting nature as well as the occasional snippet of short prose.

Be true, my cherished ones.  Be patient.  That is all this dark soul can ask, for it is all I have left.

My darkest wishes – Mikhail.

Gothropology is the show that discusses ancient traditions, modern heretics, mortality, sexuality and regeneration- the guide to come and take you by the hand into unknown pleasures.

On this episode, witness Brit-El and The Swede talking about one man’s experience in the world-famous Wasteland Weekend, a four-day desert extravaganza of all things Mad Max. Thousands of post-apocalyptic lunatics flock to the Southern California desert for Wasteland in September, and for the past few years, The Swede has been the live radio voice of the tribe. Broadcasting on actual radio frequency and not on the Web, The Swede is on air all hours of the night and day for much of the four days of Wasteland. From his radio insomnia, Wasteland-style vehicle decoration, to what separates the Mad Max style from other post-apocalyptic garb and much more, tune in for the whole historic conversation on KPCRadio.com and The Belfry Network.

With the unfortunate end of Joy Division, the remaining members would go on to form a band that would achieve critical and commercial success. The formation of New Order and their implementation of keyboards into their new sound helped set a trend for pop music throughout the eighties. Join Dr.Sanders and Robbie Gore as they take a look at a band unafraid to innovate unexplored territory in the wake of Ian Curtis’ tragic death. In this episode we discuss their first four albums, beginning with Movement and ending with Brotherhood.

This time on GothCast we’re taking on the fan-requested Cocteau Twins. While beginning with a sound more aligned with post-punk, they quickly established themselves as talented musicians who preferred to experiment with more ethereal sounds. This is definitely one of the more heated arguments between the hosts as they each argue for their favorite releases.

Apr 27, 2016

In this episode Brit-El goes off script and speaks from the heart. Among the topics discussed are film, sexuality, theology, and she even takes some calls.
